International tennis returns to SALERNO
The great International Tennis returns to Salerno
The Tennis Club La Carnale located in via Lungomare Tafuri in Salerno (on the coastal valley of the hill on which the medieval fort called "La Carnale" is located), which was completed in the late 50s. Thanks to a targeted hoc contribution of the CONI that imposed as the only constraint to the provision of funding , there was a sports company duly recognized by the reference, FSN.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the stadium, the first international tennis tournament was organized that recorded the affirmation of the strong player Ceko Jan Kodes.
Many events of a national and international nature were later hosted in the sports facility; for the sake of brevity which we mention only a few such as the "World Championship of Tennis of Rotary International “the final four with the assignment of the title of champion of Italy for the event called "Italian Women’s Cup"; the international quadrangular for national tennis cat, Under 21, and numerous national open and/or category tournaments.
Finally, just before the blockade of the demonstrations imposed by the COVID pandemic, the Polisportiva La Carnale hosted the stage of macro-area center-south for female youth formations.
The collaboration between
Circolo Tennis Club La Carnale, Sport Watchers and Tennistalker.it is born to to bring back International Tennis to our territory. A territory that has hosted major international competitions in the past.
Today we bring back International Tennis in the shining scenario of Salerno.
Forte La Carnale in Salerno is a Cavallaria tower built on the coast, near the side of the river Irno. This stronghold was part of a defense system that was built since 1563 to defend the city from fierce Saracen raids. It was built around 1569 by the entrepreneur Andrea Di Gaeta di Coperchia and originally stood directly on the sea. Currently it has been completely renovated in the eighties with two levels equipped with halls for exhibitions and cultural exhibitions, belvedere and dining rooms with panoramic lift. There are also concerts and meetings of various natures. From its terrace you can admire a very vast panorama, which sweeps over the Gulf of Salerno -on fine days with excellent visibility- from the Amalfi coast to the Cilento coast.
